Abstract

This study explores the role of the school committee in improving the quality of education at SD Negeri Kauman Kapanewon Pleret. This research aims to obtain an overview of the role of the school committee in improving the quality of school education, namely as a consideration provider, as a supporter, as a controller, and as a mediator. This study uses qualitative research, data and information are collected and studied by means of observation, interviews, and documentation. Research subjects include school committees, principals, teachers, and student guardians. Meanwhile, the object of the research is the role of school committees in improving the quality of education which is studied from four aspects of consideration, supporting, controlling and mediator. The data analysis used is data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. The results of this research show (1) As an Advisory Agency, the School Committee at Kauman State Elementary School has prepared policies and programs related to RAPBS, education management processes and procurement of educational resources (educators, teaching staff, facilities and infrastructure, budget). (2). As a supporting agency (Supporting Agency), it manages community donations which are used for school renovations, purchasing drumband equipment, scholarship funds for underprivileged and high achieving students. (3) As a controlling agency, it provides input and control over RAPBS planning, supervises the conditions of teaching staff and students, monitors the economic conditions of student parents. (4) As a Mediator (Mediator Agency) this can be carried out well, because the people selected as School Committee administrators are those who are considered community figures. So the existence of a School Committee represented by people active in the community is an appropriate means of liaison between the school and parents or the community.
