Abstract

The Early Childhood Education Teacher’s Handbook (PAUD book) is a book used as a basis for teachers to do activities and communicate with PAUD children. The world of PAUD children is a world of play with fun to prepare children for the level above. Therefore, the vocabulary in PAUD books should reflect and bring about an atmosphere of happy play. Through the vocabulary in the book, the value and focus of the book can be interpreted. Therefore, this study aims to explore favorite vocabulary in books by (1) comparing vocabulary between PAUD books, (2) evaluating favorite vocabulary in PAUD books, (3) interpreting favorite vocabulary in PAUD books. In this case, the documentation method was used. The data were taken from three PAUD teachers’ guides of Merdeka Curriculum 2023 (revised edition). To determine the favorite vocabulary, the data were processed using the corpus program nt Word Profiler 2.0.0 Powered followed by manual analysis. The results showed that (1) the number of types between books seemed to show the level of foundation to a broader scope. This starts with religious and ethical values, then the foundation phase, followed by book-based learning and play, (2) The first and second favorite vocabulary are “and” and “which” which are conjunctions. Keywords for PAUD such as learning, child, and teacher appear in all books in the top twenty-five favorite vocabulary. Other keywords such as picture, PAUD, and educator appeared in two books. The word assessment is the 18th favorite vocabulary in book II; (3) The results show that the words “child”, “learning”, PAUD, educators, activities, and assessment are the focus in PAUD. This shows that there is an atmosphere of learning as the focus. Based on this, it can be interpreted that children’s learning in PAUD by educators is the focus. In fact, this is realized through several activities including assessment.
