- Abstract
Kikigaki is a student writing that tells the life journey of a “meijin” (resource person), an older generation who inherits local knowledge and wisdom from generation to generation in managing the sustainability of natural resources. This study aimed to assess the quality of students’ kikigaki (N = 54), using a scoring rubric that included 14 scoring items, by expert raters (N = 6), who were selected based on their experience in natural resource management research. Data were analyzed with the Multi-Facet Rasch Model (MFRM). The results of the MFRM analysis showed that students’ ability to present attractive photos/graphics, use local language effectively, tell the background of meijin life, were the most difficult items to be assessed by the expert raters. In addition, it was found that the expert raters gave many unexpected responses, indicating their inconsistency in assessing the quality of students’ kikigaki formats.
