Abstract

The digitization of cultural heritage through blockchain technology offers an innovative solution to support the growth of the digital tourism industry. This article uses a narrative literature review method to analyze five major journals that discuss the use of blockchain in the cultural heritage sector. The results show that blockchain technology has great potential in tracking and authenticating cultural heritage, tokenizing cultural assets through NFTs, and efficiently managing copyrights. Blockchain also supports international collaboration by providing a secure and transparent platform for sharing information and resources between cultural institutions. However, there are technical and regulatory challenges that need to be addressed including metadata standards and system interoperability. The strategies identified in this article include tracking and authenticity, tokenization and fractional capital, rights management and protection, and the development of metadata standards and interoperability. The implementation of blockchain technology can help address issues of authenticity and tracking of cultural assets, open up new opportunities for public investment, and protect copyrights in an efficient manner. Thus, the digitization of cultural heritage through blockchain technology not only provides economic benefits to the digital tourism industry, but also contributes to the preservation and appreciation of a rich and diverse cultural heritage.
