The University of Fort Hare Annual Teaching and Learning Conference was held in East London in South Africa from 13–14 September 2023. The hybrid conference was aimed at bringing together academics from various higher education institutions across South Africa and neighbouring SADEC countries to share their experiences of blended learning and influence practice. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the implementa- tion of blended learning adopted an upward trajectory, hence the need to explore what blended learning means, its implementation in various contexts, its successes and future directions.

The main theme of the conference was “Blended Learning as a Blueprint for Higher Education Transformation.” The following sub-themes emanating from the main theme were identified:

1. Blended Learning design: tools, models, and designs that foster student engagement; collaborative writing; authentic assessment, innovative, flexible, and transformative pedagogies.

2. Efficacy of Blended Learning support and student development: e-tutoring; e-mentoring and coaching; supplemental instruction; language and writing support; and how these are experienced, measured, and evidenced in Blended Learning spaces.

3. Reflexivity, criticality, and praxis in Blended Learning spaces: framing and focusing Blended Learning practices; bargaining for quality issues in Blended Learning spaces; insights from the review of Blended Learning scholarship; subjectivity and inwardness in the realization of BL access, success, and participation in Blended Learning spaces.

The proceedings touch on all the sub-themes and create a rich tapestry of implementation modalities in different disciplines. This volume will appeal to all higher education educators and leadership who are keen to explore the integration of e-pedagogy with face-to-face teaching to enhance student learning.
