Abstract

This study explores the methods and effects of integrating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education principles into the Business English curriculum at vocational colleges in China. Most students in the Business English program come from a humanities background, leading to significant deficiencies in quantitative subjects and technical skills, which affect their academic performance and career prospects in the modern business environment. Through curriculum reform, new courses were introduced, and existing ones were modified to include STEM content and emphasize the need for STEM knowledge. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, utilizing surveys and interviews with students and employers to evaluate the impact of the integrated curriculum on graduates’ employability, academic performance, and skill proficiency. The results indicate that the integrated curriculum significantly improved graduates’ employment rates, salary levels, and employer satisfaction, while enhancing students’ quantitative and technical skills. The findings provide valuable insights for further improvement of the Business English program and contribute to the broader discussion on integrating STEM education into non-STEM fields.
