Abstract

Tourism Competency Certification is a policy formulated by the government to increase the qualification of Indonesian labors in the hospitality industry. All previous researches showed that Tourism Competency Certification does not work well. This research focuses on the perception of hotel employees on the benefits of Tourism Competency Certification in the hospitality industry. The purpose of this research is to identify and analyze employees’ perception on the benefits of Tourism Competency Certification. It is expected that this research can help give advice and provide evaluation materials to the government in order to improve Tourism Competency Certification. The Employees’ perception also underlies the difference character of each employees whether they are beneficial for Tourism Competency Certification to their work life. Qualitative method has been chosen for this research applying content analysis as proposed by Harold D. Lasswell. Interviewees consist of 21 employees on different positions and work areas. The result of this research indicates two characteristics of employees implying that Tourism Competency Certification is beneficial for their work life but not beneficial based on three levels, namely experience, scope, and linearity. Another the result of this research is the lack of benefits of Tourism Competency Certification perceived by employees for career path, employees performance, and the competition with the other labors.
