- Abstract
In the process of international exchange and cooperation, foreign language majors shoulder the important responsibility of cultural spreading in their language services. The lack of cultural literacy will inevitably lead to irreparable loss in cross-cultural communication. However, foreign language teaching at college tends to focus on the specific use of language skills while neglecting the enhancement of students' cultural literacy. Besides, the lack of cultural literacy of foreign language majors is closely related to their certain way of learning in the information age with two features: fragmented learning and utilitarian learning. It is found that reading plays a vital role in nourishing students' minds and enhancing their cultural literacy. To make up for the lack of cultural literacy in the process of cultivating foreign language talents, we should start from strengthening reading in foreign language teaching.
