Abstract

This research analyzes the representation of history in Iwan Fals’ song lyrics using a historiographic theory approach. Iwan Fals, one of Indonesia’s legendary singers and songwriters, is considered a figure who can reflect on history, give meaning to historical events, and shape historical narratives through his work. The analytical method used involves a literature study on historiographic theory and content analysis of the lyrics of Iwan Fals’ songs chosen as the research sample. It is hoped that the results of this research can provide new insight into how history is conveyed and interpreted through music, as well as enrich discussions about the relationship between art, history, and culture. Besides, the results can positively contribute to a deeper understanding of the role of artists in reflecting and criticizing history through their artistic works. Thus, this research is not just about discovering how history is represented in song lyrics but also how artists like Iwan Fals can provide a new and critical perspective on history through his work. Through critical and in-depth analysis, this research can provide significant and valuable results for understanding the complexity of the relationship between art, history, and culture in the Indonesian context. Hopefully, this research can be a starting point for further research regarding the role of artists in reflecting history and building national identity through their works of art.
