Proceedings of the International Dental Conference of Sumatera Utara 2017 (IDCSU 2017)
The International Dental Conference of Sumatera Utara 2017 (ICDSU 2017) was held by Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara in Medan on 7th-9th December 2017. The 900 scientific participants from 4 countries had many fruitful discussions and exchanges that contributed to the success of the Conference, and made the conference international in scope.
The 126 abstracts that were presented on three days of the conference are the important part of the conference and provided ample opportunity for discussion. The abstracts were presented in oral and poster presentation, and consist of 103 research reports, 12 case reports, and 11 literature reviews that in accordance with the Conference theme, “Updated Dental Concepts to Achieve Excellence in Dentistry”. Of the total number of presented abstracts, 86 of these are included in this proceeding.
There were three keynote lectures covering the different areas of the conference, Winthrop Prof. Dr. Paul V. Abbot AO, BDS, MDS, FRACDS (University of Western Australia) talked on “Differentiating the different types of root resorption” and “That root-filled tooth now has a periapical radiolucency…. What Next”, Prof. Michael McCullough (University of Melbourne) talked on “An update on oral cancer, the need for early detection and novel clinical tools for its recognition for excellence in dentistry”, and Dr. Abhishek Parolia, MS., PhD (International Medical University), talked on “Disinfection in endodontics: easy way of get predictable success”. Other than these three amazing lectures the conference also had 18 main lectures from diverse fields of dentistry such as Oral Surgery, Dental Material, Endodontics, Orthodontics, Oral Biology, and Pediatric Dentistry. These talks covered the full range of the conference topics.
Notably, this was the 1st International conference held by Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara. Generous support for the conference was provided by Universitas Sumatera Utara, and other sponsors. The supports were sizeable, timely, and greatly appreciated.
All in all, IDCSU 2017 was very successful. The keynote lectures, main lectures as well as short lectures bridged the gap between the different fields of dentistry, making it possible for all the participants to gain insight into new knowledge.
The next IDCSU will take place in 2020, we expect that the future IDCSU will be more success than most recent one was. We hope that there will be many more abstracts submitted from expert around the world.
