- Abstract
The preliminary study addresses a critical issue concerning the limited access to pregnancy self-care for incarcerated pregnant women due to systemic restrictions within prisons. This study aims to identify gaps in pregnant prisoners’ self-care practices from the perspective of healthcare workers within the prison system. The study was conducted at the Women Correctional Institution Class II Semarang between January and March 2023, and it utilized a combination of interviews, document analysis, and observation to collect data. The study’s findings highlight several key points, which are the limited engagement in taking care of themselves during pregnancy; the perceived indifference of the healthcare workers; the low motivations indicate by being lazy in taking care of their pregnancy; the distrust of the healthcare workers because of previous negative experiences; and low awareness and independence caused by lack of resources on information of the importance of pregnancy self-care.
