Website: http://icomse.fmipa.um.ac.id/ The International Conference on Mathematics and Science Education (ICoMSE 2023) with the theme “Science and Mathematics Education Research for Sustainable Develop- ment,” organised by the Department of Science Education, Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) in collaboration with the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) are delighted to host this conference in Malang. Today’s world faces numerous obstacles. To improve efficiency and resource pro- ductivity, we must address the sustainability agenda. The Science and Mathematics Education and the Basic Sciences communities are responsible for constructing science and mathematics teaching at all educational levels to be meaningful and support soci- ety’s better life by applying knowledge to convert resources into products and services without jeopardising future generations’ ability to meet their needs. We must be acutely aware of the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration and encourage that science & mathematics education research developed based on basic science research. The synergy between the two areas will strengthen their contribution to increasing national productivity and competitiveness. Curriculum and pedagogical reform in science and mathematics education and continual professional growth are required to address broader social and ethical concerns. In accordance with UM’s goal and objective, which is to become a world-class research university, this international conference is one of many initiatives to make that vision and mission a reality. This year’s conference commemorates the 69th anniversary of UM. Hopefully, in the not- too-distant future, we can all contribute substantially more to the nation’s advancement.
