- Abstract
He listener’s emotional reaction is significant for the performer, as well as for people who participate in musical activities. Research on the emotional response to music is hampered by the lack of a systematic and reliable approach for measuring emotional response. In this article, the researcher critically reviewed the literature on measuring the emotional reaction of music from several perspectives, including emotion-theoretical models, the application of models, the methods of collecting listeners’ emotional reactions, selection of musical stimuli, and testing environment. To investigate the limitations of previous research, and promote academic awareness of the relevance of method collaboration in developing a more valid, uniform, and systematic approach to assessing emotional reactions.
