The purpose of this research is finding out the effectiveness of multimedia-based PAKEM learning model as an effort to improve students’ writing skill on explanation text. Quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design (non-equivalent control group design) was employed. The samples were two classes of fifth graders of SDN Isola Kota Bandung. The calculation showed significant improvement of students’ writing skills. This indicated the effectiveness of the model in assisting students write their explanation text. In addition to that, the students demonstrated positive responses towards the model implementation. As the recommendation, teachers are highly suggested to implement the model in order to create an effective, contextual, communicative, and fun learning to achieve the optimum learning objectives. There is also possibility for further research to combine the model with another model to create a more dynamic learning.
