Proceedings of the 1st International Conference on Intellectuals' Global Responsibility (ICIGR 2017)
The 1st International Conference on Intellectuals’ Global Responsibility (ICIGR) 2017 is a conference held by Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo (UMSIDA) on 24–25 November, 2017 at Sidoarjo, Indonesia. UMSIDA is in partnership with Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), and Cotabato City State Polytechnic College (CCSPC) Philippines in conducting this conference that delivers “Science for Social Welfare and Justice” as its first year’s theme. Here, ICIGR is designed to be a forum for the intellectuals from all area of expertise in sharing their views, thoughts, experiences, and ways forward in reaching out the social welfare and justice based on the progressive way of living. The development of human knowledge is not merely for the sake of knowledge itself but to make the life where we live insightful and enlightened. Intellectuals as a broad concept that covers scholars, academicians, researchers, practitioners, professionals, and experts in any disciplines of knowledge should have a critical concern on this issue. Their knowledge is a real power bringing responsibility that they must undertake with fully dedication. The ICIGR, in this context, gathers the intellectuals who have critical thought and responsibility to make a better sphere for the society to partake in the journey of making the world better and civilized.
In fulfilling this hope, ICIGR 2017 welcomes intellectuals worldwide to join and share their ideas and research findings on various sub themes including green economy, business ethics, education for all, good corporate governance, halal products, renewable energy, citizen charter, eco-tourism, social wellbeing, and globalization and human rights. Therefore, there is 247 participant of this conference. In the end of full paper submission deadline, there are 157 submitted papers with 85 accepted papers for publication in the conference proceedings. All papers submitted were processed through a normative procedure for the reason of quality assurance. They were firstly reviewed by the content reviewers. Then, they were sent to the language reviewers and finally to the template reviewers. In brief, three teams of reviewers have reviewed the selected papers to reach publication. In general, this conference has gained direction and supervision from the International Advisory Board and International Scientific Committee to ensure that the whole process meets the internationally accepted academic standards. This conference has also increasingly showed its prestige with the presence of highly distinguished speakers Prof. Achmad Jainuri, M.A., Ph.D. from State Islamic University of Sunan Ampel Surabaya (UINSA) Indonesia, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mustafa Mohd Hanefah from USIM, Prof. Madya Dr. Yahya Don and Prof. Dr. Shukri Ahmad from UUM, and Dr. Abdul M. Lantong from CCSPC who delivered their insightful presentations.
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we sincerely express our gratitude and appreciation to all those who have involved in enabling this conference achieving the desired aim or result: officials, resource persons, delegates and guests of UMSIDA, UUM, USIM, and CCSPC, all publication partners, and sponsoring agencies including Bank BNI, Bank BRI, Bank BSM, and Sidoarjo Regency.
