In this publication, you will find a collection of scholarly articles and insightful reviews that delve into various aspects of General Education. Our esteemed contributors include educators, researchers and practitioners from varied disciplines, providing a multifaceted exploration of contemporary themes in General Education. The contributions follow the second HCT 2024 International General Education Conference entitled The Future of Work: Equipping Students with Applied Learning Skills for Success in General Educa-tion, held virtually at the Higher Colleges of Technology, Dubai Women’s Campus, the United Arab Emirates on March 15, 2024.

Over 300 local and international participants attended the conference from all around the world including the USA, the UK, the Philippines, Canada, India and Egypt to name a few. The conference was aimed at sharing cutting-edge research around the future of work and how we may equip students with the necessary applied learning skills for their success.

The conference commenced with a very warm welcome by Dr. Luc Verburgh, Chief Academic Officer, HCT, followed by two inspiring plenary speakers, Dr. Fathi Finaish, Mubadala Investment Company and Dr. Natasha Ridge, Executive Director of the Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation for Policy Research. Dr. Fathi Finaish described the salient attributes employers are seeking from graduates in his talk entitled: Values, Abilities, and Skills that Matter. Dr. Natasha Ridge considered the ingredients of accomplishment post-tertiary education in her thought-provoking presentation: Setting Graduates up for Success in the Workplace.

Following the plenary speakers, a diverse range of presentations focused on topics including innovative education, digital content creation, coaching for educators, digital literacy and personal branding, offering original perspectives and insights across various fields of General Education.

We would like to acknowledge the authors of the papers collected in the present volume; the members of the conference organizing committee; and the volume editors and the many managers, faculty and staff from the Higher Colleges of Technology for their guidance and support in making this conference a success.

We look forward to our next conference in 2025 and invite you to join us on this intellectual journey as we continue to explore the intersection of various disciplines in the field of General Education.
