Abstract

Astaxanthin is a carotenoid with strong antioxidant activity. The function of astaxanthin has been associated with a number of health-promoting benefits. This paper discusses the beneficial effects of astaxanthinin the prevention and treatment of human diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes and neurodegenerative diseases.
