Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,
Dear colleagues and friends, Alhamdulillahi rabbil ‘alamin, all praises to Allah subhanahu wata'ala for granting us the opportunity to organize this event as well as possible. In this great opportunity, I would like to say “Welcome to Yogyakarta for the 5th Universitas Ahmad Dahlan Public Health Conference (UPHEC)”. UPHEC is the annual program organized by Faculty of Public Health Universitas Ahmad Dahlan to offer excellent opportunities for the researchers and delegates to exchange new ideas, and to establish research or business links, as well as to build a global partnership for potential collaboration in the public health-related fields. Our organizing committee has established this fifth international conference under the theme “The Role of Environmental Science to Support Healthy City Development in SDGs Era”. The committee has organized exciting scientific programs with lectures by outstanding speakers to give us an insight into the latest developments in public health, especially in environmental issues. The speakers come from RUDN University Russia, Universitas Hasanuddin Indonesia, Hungkuang University Taiwan, Universiti Teknologi Mara Malaysia, Mahidol University Thailand, and Universitas Ahmad Dahlan Indonesia. The committee has packed all two days with the exciting conference, plenary sessions, workshops, and oral presentations. We regret that we were unable to accept more paper than we have. In this conference, 64 research were presented from a total of 158 submitted manuscripts. The 5th UPHEC conducted the agreement with Atlantis Press to publish selected papers to be indexed in the Scopus, Google Scholar, or other relevant indexation databases. Finally, I would like to thank our committee and sponsors for their generous support and valuable collaboration. I would also thank all of the presenters, participant, board members, and keynote speakers. Wassalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. Warm regards,
Chairman of the 5th UPHEC
Ahmad Faizal Rangkuti Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh, Alhamdulillahi rabbil ‘alamin, all praises belong to Allah subahanahu wata’ala for granting us the opportunity to organize this agenda. On behalf of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, we would like to welcome you to Special Region of Yogyakarta for the 5th Universitas Ahmad Dahlan Public Health Conference, 3 – 4 July 2019. Several countries in the world are undergoing economic development at a rapid rate, resulting in levels of urban air pollution in many cities. This development is also transforming the demographic and epidemiologic characteristics of the population in ways that are likely to affect its vulnerability to air pollution. The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that it was about 93% children under 15 y.o. in the world are exposed to ambient air pollution from particulate matter (PM2.5), of which 630 million children are still under five y.o. Effective public policy responses to the public health challenges posed by air pollution in developing countries are needed to improve the human quality of life. Therefore, the United Nations has launched the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); a continuation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) which is targetted to end in 2030 to make the environment more comfortable, safe, clean, and also healthy. The SDGs addressing critical sustainability issues, especially in the area of environmental management and preservation i.e. SDG 2: Zero Hunger; SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation; SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities; SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production; SDG 13: Climate action; and SDG 16: Peace, justice, and strong institutions. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development places renewed emphasis on just how interconnected our social, economic, and environmental ambitions are. Health promotion efforts grounded in a healthy cities approach can contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A healthy cities approach which catalyzes political leadership and participatory governance can be transformational for health and health equity, as well as help mitigate the impacts of environmental degradation, climate change, aging, migration, growing inequalities, and social isolation. The realization of a healthy city with sustainable development is the result of multi-sector hard work and collaboration across countries. Therefore, this international conference was conceived as an effort to bridge information and ideas of experts and practitioners so that it can be beneficial for the community in developing healthy cities under the theme “The Role of Environmental Science to Support Healthy City Development in SDGs Era”. This event is held annually by the Faculty of Public Health Universitas Ahmad Dahlan.
