Abstract

The article deals with linguistic manifestations of national features and ethnic stereotypes in popular Russian jokes and anecdotes. The authors make an attempt to define the specific character of anecdotes as precedent texts and to distinguish national and cultural stereotypes particular for "interethnic" and ethnic (Russian) popular jokes. They try to find out the best known character-traits of a "typical" Russian man drawn through the auto-stereotypical representation of his positive and negative qualities.
