- Abstract
The aim of the paper is to compare the role of speaking skills in different language teaching methods. Three teaching methods, the Direct Method, Audiolingual Method and Task-based Language Teaching are selected to show how important speaking is considered to be from the perspective of those methods, compared to the other three skills. Examples are demonstrated to illustrate how speaking – i.e. pronunciation and / or discourse skills – is taught according to the methods that have been chosen.
