- Abstract
The seismic site-conditions and amplification, which would lead to the great difference between minor and major damage, was necessary in earthquake risk assessment to derive the earthquake site Peak Ground Acceleration (GPA) partial distribution. The method of using topographic slope as a proxy for seismic site-condition and amplification, which was introduced in USGS open-file report 2007-1357, was applied to generate the Building Earthquake Risk Map for Mainland China in national scale and Earthquake Risk Assessment for Songming City in regional scale. In national scale, Shuttle Radar Topography Mission 30-sec(STRM30) data set in mainland China was employed to obtain topographic information. Two sets of coefficients for predicting Vs30 were used to correlate Vs30 against topographic slope: one for active tectonic regions, and one for stable continental regions. Amplification factors of PGA related with Vs30 and site class were used to generate site GPA map, which was used as hazard partial distribution to participant in the following processes of generating Building Earthquake Risk Map for Mainland China. In regional scale, resource of topography data, resource of ground motion distribution on rock-site and amplification factors is as same as which applied in national scale. According to shear-velocity measurements, two sets of coefficients were employed in Cenozoic area and former strata area. Site GPA map was used as a result of earthquake hazard and the input of following processes of building vulnerability assessment. The study illustrated the feasibly of using topographic slope as a rapid approach for site-conditions and amplification in earthquake risk assessment in national and regional scale.
