- Abstract
Taiwan entered an aging society in 1993 and became a deeply aging society in 2018. It is estimated that by 2025, Taiwan will enter a super-aged society. With the impending arrival of a super-aged society characterized by low birth rates, the old-age dependency ratio continues to rise, and the accompanying issue of long-term care will become a significant burden for the younger population in Taiwan. As the ten-year Long-term Care 1.0 and 2.0 plans near their end, Taiwan introduced the “Long-term Care Iron Triangle Service with Smart Technology Assistance Plan” in 2021 to promote the development of smart long-term care on the island. This article discusses the main long-term care policies in Taiwan and explores future paths for integrating smart long-term care practices across the Taiwan Strait.
