- Abstract
The digital economy, characterized by high efficiency, convenience, and intelligence, is reshaping China’s economic structure and social lifestyle, while also subtly changing the consumption concepts and behavior patterns of the elderly. In-depth exploration and research into the current consumption potential of the elderly has important theoretical value and practical significance for building a future-oriented digital economic system that adapts to an aging society. This paper adopts an empirical analysis method that matches macro and micro data. Using the 2020 China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) data as a sample, the entropy method is used to construct a provincial digital economy index, which is used as an explanatory variable for empirical analysis to explore the impact of the digital economy on the consumption of Chinese elderly households. The research proves that the digital economy has a positive impact on the total consumption of elderly households, and there are significant numerical differences in this regard between urban and rural areas and among households with different income levels. The digital economy has a greater impact on the consumption of urban elderly households, especially young-old households.
