- Abstract
This study seeks to elucidate the function of social media as a digital platform for communication among citizens. Social media has fundamentally altered the mode of citizen communication, shifting it from traditional to digital platforms. Social media has emerged as the primary platform for digital citizenship communication across a wide range of interactions, including those with colleagues, family members, and the general public. The study employs a digital ethnographic methodology, utilizing in-depth interviews and digital participatory observations to investigate the internet generations in East-Kalimantan, Indonesia. The study reveals that social media significantly contributes to the establishment of democratic, interactive, and participatory communication norms. Additionally, the study revealed that media social platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook have emerged as prominent avenues for digital communication in everyday civic engagements.
