- Abstract
This article presents some results of a comparative analysis of the two apocryphal texts (Greek and Syriac), telling of the death of the Virgin Mary. Researchers have long noticed the similarity in content and presentation of one of the sections of "Transitus Mariae" with the "Dormition" of Pseudo John. On the origin of this similarity, within the meaning of the two opposite assumption was made. The first - the Greek text of the "Dormition" was used by the author of the Syrian compilation "Transitus Mariae", the second - the Greek text dates back to the Syriac text. Both the first and second assumptions scientists have not yet been proved, so in modern literature to talk about the similarities between the two texts, but to abstain on the priority of one or the other. We present the evidence in favor of the primacy of "Transitus Mariae".
