- Abstract
Recent sociolinguistic studies show substantial differences between the solutions offered in pronouncing dictionaries and the data of interviews and observations. This situation casts doubt on the correctness of the procedure for the adoption of solutions of the dictionaries. The article critically analyzed the various grounds for the recommendation of the pronouncing variant (prevalence of the variant, its compliance with internal language law or trends; compliance with cultural-historical traditions; acceptance/rejection by the society etc.).
