- Abstract
By the end of year 2019, the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has emerged. Psychological distress among frontline nurses in response to COVID-19 pandemic was a serious health concern. This study aimed to assess the level of psychological distress among Jordanian nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional study conducted using an online self-administered questionnaire. The survey comprised of a socio-demographic questionnaire, the 10-item Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10), and Fear of COVID-19 Scale. The mean of total K10 distress scores had significant association with gender (P = 0.002) level of education (p = 0.002) and experience in current hospital (p = 0.033). Most respondents had severe psychological distress (86.7%). There was a statistically significant relationship between psychological distress and level of fear (P = 0.006). The COVID-19 pandemic seems to have a major psychological consequence on nurses, making their psychological state more sensitive. As a result, more emphasis should be deposited on providing professional support services for nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic .
