It is with great pleasure that we present the Proceedings of the 2nd Ibn Khaldun International Conference on Applied and Social Science (IICASS), which took place on August 27–28, 2024, in the Bogor City, Indonesia, at the Swiss-Belcourt Hotel. This event was conducted in a hybrid manner, blending both physical and virtual participation to accommodate a diverse range of attendees from around the globe. The theme of this year’s conference, “Navigating Vibecession: Safeguarding Against the Risks of False National Identities in Economics, Education, Governance, and Madani Society,” captures the essence of contemporary challenges faced by societies in a rapidly changing world.

This international conference brings together distinguished speakers from Chile, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, and Kuwait to address a wide array of topics that span democratic values, Islamic development strategies, and technological innovation. Beginning with the application of democratic values for Muslim minorities in Thailand, the discussion focuses on fostering inclusivity and civic engagement within religious contexts. The conference continues with insights on Maqasid Al Shariah, emphasizing its role as a development strategy to manage Islamic societies with excellence. A communication model for Muslim families based on the Madani society framework is also introduced, aiming to strengthen family dynamics through cultural and ethical principles. Furthermore, speakers from Japan highlight AI-powered innovations for SMEs, showcasing transformative business solutions. The potential of generative AI in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is also explored, offering a bridge between traditional and modern learning paradigms. Finally, the conference highlights the Superlative Quadruple Helix collaboration model—connecting government, academia, business, and community— to drive the transformation and inclusivity of UMKM HalalPro, underscoring the importance of cross-sector partnerships for progress.

This conference also brought together scholars, practitioners, and experts from various fields to present their papers and explore how these sectors are affected by global trends, and to propose strategies for safeguarding the integrity of national identities amidst these changes. The breadth of the discussions and research presented was truly remarkable, encompassing topics as varied as the implementation of waqf core principles, green entrepreneurship, the role of AI in education, and the impact of K-pop on political engagement. Each of these papers offers a unique perspective on how we can shape a sustainable and inclusive future for all.

This publication includes a selection of high-quality papers presented during the conference. These works represent the forefront of academic inquiry into issues related to economics, education, governance, and societal development. The articles presented in this proceeding span diverse subjects, each contributing valuable insights into how national identities can be shaped, safeguarded, and transformed in the face of evolving global and local dynamics. For instance, the study on Waqf Core Principles Implementation provides a practical analysis of how Islamic charitable endowments can be institutionalized for socioeconomic development, reflecting how economic structures rooted in religious identity can be reinforced. Articles exploring the performance-based budgeting model in private universities and the comparative advantage of Sharia financing also align with the theme by examining governance and financial systems in a way that integrates local cultural and religious frameworks into modern management practices. These studies underscore how economic and governance models, when connected with ethical principles and religious values, can create resilient structures amidst the pressures of globalization.

In the realm of education, several papers address the challenges of maintaining national identity and values in an increasingly digital and globalized world. The paper on the Tree-HR Model for human resource development highlights howhigher education institutions can strengthen their workforce while fostering national values and ethics. Similarly, studies on the use of AI in education, such as AI-based writing models for enhancing student skills, show how technology can be harnessed to improve learning while preserving cultural identity and religious principles, such as in the context of Santri education. The article analyzing the Pancasila Student Profile and its relationship to learning motivation illustrates the importance of maintaining civic values and national ideology in curricula, which is essential for fostering responsible citizens in a pluralistic society.

The intersection of digital technology, culture, and political engagement is further explored through studies on digitalmarketing using AI and theK-popification of political campaigns. These articles highlight how global influences, especially through media and technology, can reshape national identity, posing both opportunities and risks. As such, the relevance of these studies to the conference theme is profound: they demonstrate how navigating the “vibecession”—the fluctuating cultural and social trends—requires a keen understanding of how digital platforms, popular culture, and economic models influence public perception, political engagement, and societal values. The analysis of gender equality and religious freedom in relation to policies like the Jilbab ban in PASKIBRAKA further deepens the discourse on how national identity is constructed and challenged in modern governance frameworks.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the participants, presenters, and contributors who made this conference a success. Special thanks are due to our organizing committee, whose tireless efforts ensured the smooth running of this event. We also wish to acknowledge our keynote speakers and moderators for their insightful contributions, as well as our sponsors and partners for their generous support.
