Abstract

Radicalism and terrorism have become serious challenges for Indonesia, a nation with rich ethnic, cultural, and religious diversity. Bima, a region in West Nusa Tenggara Province, has not been immune to the impacts and threats posed by the spread of radical ideologies. This article explores approaches for addressing and preventing the dissemination of radicalism in Bima through a multidimensional lens. The study provides an overview of the state of radicalism and terrorism in Indonesia, as well as the factors contributing to its spread in Bima. By considering both local and national contexts, the article identifies strategies employed by the government, community, and relevant institutions in combating these threats. The research adopts a qualitative approach to deeply understand the phenomenon of radicalism and terrorism, especially within the context of radicalism’s spread in Bima. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and direct observations. Key informants included community leaders, security officials, religious figures, and members of communities affected by radicalization. Document analysis of government policies, prior research reports, and educational materials used in prevention programs was also conducted. The results indicate that the spread of radicalism in Bima is influenced by socioeconomic conditions, narrow religious interpretations, external influences, and political injustices. Preventive strategies have involved educational programs promoting tolerance and moderate religious understanding, economic empowerment initiatives, and fostering interfaith dialogues.
