- Abstract
Iron–doped lanthanum stannate (Fe–La2Sn2O7, simplified as Fe–La) was prepared firstly and used as a synergistic agent of the intumescent flame retardant (IFR, the mixture of ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and pentaerythritol (PER) with mass ratio of 2:1) for polyphosphate (PP). The limiting oxygen index (LOI), UL-94 test, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetry-fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) were used to evaluate the synergistic effects of Fe-La. It was found that a suitable amount (1.0%) of Fe-La could not only improve the flame retardancy, but also can form a continuous, compact and intumescent char layer; over addition (5.0%) of La-Fe into the PP/IFR system could reduce the flame retardancy and form a loose char.
