- Abstract
This study aims to clarify the development and changes in the many schools of Gu Zheng (Zhejiang Zheng). The focus is on the lesser-known techniques and repertoire that have evolved from the 1920s to the 21st century. The Zhejiang Zheng’s techniques, including the “strumming” (kuaisidian) and “saoxian”, are unique and not found in other Zheng genres. Over the course of a century, Zhejiang Zheng has shifted its focus from technical expertise to national themes and, more recently, to self-discovery.
