We are delighted to present the 1st International Conference on Law, Governance and Islamic Society (ICOLGIS 2019) of Faculty of Law Syiah Kuala University. This conference is held on October 21st - 22nd 2019 in Academic Activity Center (AAC) Dayan Dawood Syiah Kuala University, Banda Aceh, Indonesia. ICOLGIS 2019 is one of the first major international meetings on Law, Governance and Islamic Society. It is attended by scholars, researchers, practitioners, and government to discuss research and practices in on Law, Governance and Islamic Society. This year theme is “Connecting Local and Global Knowledge for Humanising Future”.

There are almost 180 papers submitted, and from that number the committee has selected 68 papers for presentation. All papers included in this collection have undergone careful review before being selected for publication.

The level of interest in the conference subject matter is maintained by organizing the conference in 4 parallel sessions, each on a specific theme, to provide each paper with sufficient time for presentation and to accommodate all of them within the overall time allocated.

Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to our fellow members of the Committee in securing a substantial input of papers and in encouraging participation from their areas, as well as in taking care of all the excellent logistical arrangements for the conference. Their efforts are marvelous. We also would like thanks to the authors for contributing their research results to the conference. Special thanks go to Atlantis Press. We are looking forward to the next ICOLGIS which will be scheduled in the following years.
