Abstract

Interpretation of symbols in Simalungun, which has been done by any parties considered as the leader in the field of customs, society organization or government, is conducted so that Simalungun ethnic can implement those symbols as a benchmark of view while behaving and acting during their daily activities, so it can create the harmonic interaction with other ethnics. Moreover, the symbols can establish the identity of Simlaungun ethnic, particularly in regional autonomy, which isused as basis for the establishment of local governance regulations. Symbols which underlie the life of Simalungun ethnic are called Habonaron Do Bona and Sapangambei Manoktok Hitei. Habonaron Do Bona, which means of the truth, is the most basic and important thing that covers the whole aspects in life. It becomes symbol of Simalungun Government recognized as symbol that means of upholding the truth. This term can be accumulated in the daily activities of Simalungun ethnic who has ahap Simalungun. Sapangambei Manoktok Hitei means the priority of togetherness to do work, especially a mutual cooperation. If something is done together then the purpose or what be aspired will be quickly achieved and implemented. Like building a bridge, it can not be finished alone, but with a lot of people, it means that when they do mutual cooperation, it will be quickly finish to make the great bridge. Therefore, interpreted symbols of Habonaron Do Bona and Sapangambei Manoktok Hitei is being an idea of Simalungun ethnic identity which can build their true self. Upholding the truth and doing the mutual cooperation in daily life, particularly in regional autonomy, provide opportunities to Simalungun ethnic for improving their quality of life. It means that together with the other ethnics who have ahap Simalungun, they can build up the acceleration of progress and prosperity with the truth.
