Abstract

Violence experienced by the students become a phenomenon in Indonesia. Many cases of violence whichinvolving various actors, such as theteachers when giving the punishment for the student,a senior student who bully their junior or the fighting between student. The main purposeof this study is to map the different forms of violence and the scale of violence based on thestudent perception. In addition, the study also aims to examine the variables which causing the violence in schools. To further explore the research problem, the study usesa descriptive quantitative approach with survey research methods. The location of the researchiscovering the four Cities in East Java, namely: Surabaya, Malang, Pasuruan, and Bangkalan. The number of research samples is 400 students. This research usesmultistage random samplingtechnique. The results show that there is a quite high number of students who have experienced violence at school. The students and the teachers can be served as the perpetrators or the victims of violence at school. This research is using the perception index on violence, starts from the heaviest violent action those are: (1) physical violence; (2) indirect violence; (3) verbal violence. While for the causes of violence are: (1) the interaction actors in school, and (2) unconducive academic environmentatschool.
