Abstract

Indonesia is an area prone to natural disasters. This is due to its geographical location. Possible natural catastrophes pose a threat and disrupt people’s lives and livelihoods, resulting in fatalities, harm to the environment, destruction of property, and psychological effects. This disaster specifically has an impact on the human rights of survivors, for example the right to protection, the right to feel safe. Therefore, there is a need for innovation and self-preparation to reduce disaster risk by using technology. The creation of various technologies and innovations will support strengthening preparedness, decrease of catastrophe risk and management of disasters. This article discusses the role of using mitigation technology in decision making when a disaster occurs, especially reconstruction after the liquefaction disaster in Palu, Central Sulawesi. The relocation of liquefaction disaster victims is a demonstration of the state’s obligation to safeguard the whole Indonesian population. Accurate use of technology and innovation can be the key to controlling disaster risk and reducing the emergence of new disasters. This study combines literature reviews with qualitative approaches. A qualitative approach is applied to explore the meaning conveyed by sources in the form of narratives or descriptions. The study’s goal is to ascertain how using mitigation technologies affects decision-making in the event of a disaster especially reconstruction after the liquefaction disaster in Palu, Central Sulawesi. According to the study’s findings, technology can assist the government in making relocation decisions. and mapping disaster-prone areas as a future mitigation effort.
