- Abstract
Global concerns like climate change are serious problems that affect societies all around the world. In 2020, the Thomson Reuters Foundation estimated that losses from climate change would total $8 billion USD every day. The Presidential Regulation Number 98 of 2021 and the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation Number 21 of 2022 establish a framework for carbon trading in Indonesia, a nation with significant potential for mitigating and adapting to climate change. The Financial Services Authority has released OJK Regulation No. 14 of 2023 on Carbon Trading through Carbon Exchanges, which is a recent development. It is anticipated that carbon trading will contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the accomplishment of the 13th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), and the mitigation and adaptation of climate change. Still, a number of factors must be taken into account, including making sure the neighborhood benefits socially and economically and carefully integrating with the SDGs. Using a statute approach, comparative approach, and conceptual approach, normative juridical research methodology is employed. The result of this research shows that POJK 14/2023 marks a new chapter of carbon trading in Indonesia and this can be a step in addressing climate change in Indonesia.
