- Abstract
This study constructs a research on the relevant discourses of COVID-19 of two self-build corpora (China’s economic Legal Policy Corpus and English News Corpus during the COVID-19 pandemic); the framework of legal and news discourse construction are constructed based on the text type, communicative purpose and other factors. It was found that: (1) the discourse construction type of economic news and legal policies during the COVID-19 are influenced by text type, communicative purpose and other factors to some extent; (2) during the COVID-19 pandemic, “development” has been the focus of China’s economic legal policies and English news, the two have attached importance to economic recovery and taken a positive attitude towards it in different ways. These findings suggest that: (1) There are some similarities and differences between economic news and legal policies in terms of discourse construction; (2) there is a certain synchronization between legal policies and news, and both of them maintain a positive and objective attitude towards the economic development during the pandemic; (3) discourse can be regarded as a construction composed of lexical and argument constructions, construction analysis of Chinese economic legal policies and news during the COVID-19 can help the public to analyze the orientation and direction of China’s economic development from the perspectives of law and news, so as to better understand and grasp the situation and implement relevant policies. This study is conducted from the theory and practice of discourse construction grammar, economic discourse strategies during the COVID-19 and the focus and core values of discourses to provides some references for relevant studies.
