With the continuous development and successful industrial applications of press hardening technology, there is an urgent need to expand the industrial and research community in this field as an international exchange platform following the successful conference series. In the fast-growing market for advanced high strength steels and press hardening, access to comprehensive knowledge is essential to unlock the economic potential of the technology for companies to gain and maintain competitiveness. We have come to realize that research and development at the academic and industrial application levels are of great significance to continuous innovation.

With the rapid development of international hot stamping technology, China has more than 300 hot stamping lines and the technology is widely used in automotive body structures, the 7th International Conference on Advanced High Strength Steel and Press Hardening (ICHSU2024) is scheduled to be held on August 21–23, 2024, in Hefei, China.

ICHSU2024 is organized to meet the increasingly urgent requirements for reducing the weight of automotive structures and improving occupant safety. The conference attracted great interest and attention from researchers in the field of hot stamping both at home and abroad, and more than 100 papers were received, covering almost all the current topics of advanced high strength steels and press hardening technologies. After academic review, 81 papers were accepted for international publication.

Among the papers in this session, hot stamping of laser welded blanks, especially the development of laser welding technology and equipment for large and complex custom-welded blanks, has remarkably increased to improve safety performance and reduce costs of bodywork. For example, the application of hot stamping of body door rings using laser welded blanks is growing rapidly. Hot stamping companies are more concerned about howto shorten the production rhythm and increase production efficiency by improving the process and adding auxiliary tools. Achievements have also been made in manufacturing technologies for zinc-coated steel sheet, which are beginning to be adopted in hot stamping components.With the increased focus on artificial intelligence, the research and development of digitization and digital twin systems for hot stamping production lines have also received considerable attention.
