Website: https://ichse.um.ac.id/ The 2nd International Conference on History, Social Sciences, and Education (ICHSE) was held on August 29, 2024, in a hybrid format, combining both virtual and in-person attendance at Universitas Negeri Malang, Indonesia. This conference brought together scholars, faculty members, students, and esteemed guests from various parts of theworld to explore the theme “Unheard Voices in History, Social Sciences, and Education.” The hybrid model allowed participants from diverse geographical locations to engage in meaningful discussions and knowledge-sharing despite the constraints of physical distance. The aim of ICHSE 2024 was to provide an academic platform where researchers could present and critically examine preliminary findings and ongoing studies focused on marginalized or silenced narratives within the fields of history, social sciences, and education. The scope of this conference encouraged participants to challenge conventional paradigms and explore new research methodologies that better reflect the richness and diversity of human experiences. By centring the conference around unheard voices, we collectively aspired to create a more inclusive academic discourse. The conference featured a variety of subthemes, including (1) Student Voices in Education, (2) Voices from Below in Social and Cultural History, (3) Beyond the Text: Oral History Revisited, (3) Toward Grassroot Reconciliation in Southeast Asia, (4) Climate Change and Sustainability Education, (4) Politics of Knowledge: (Re)production and Counternarratives, (5) Educational Innovations on the Kurikulum Merdeka Framework (6) Problematizing the Discourse of “Other”, (7) Practicing Communication among the Subaltern, and (8) Citizenship in the Making: Recent Populist Democracy. This volume of proceedings demonstrates diverse intellectual contributions made during the conference. The papers presented here reflect the richness of the conference theme and subthemes, capturing both the depth of research and the passion for expanding the boundaries of existing knowledge. Each paper represents not just an academic exploration but also a commitment to bringing forward voices that have been historically marginalized. The importance of the papers in this proceedings cannot be overstated. They serve as the foundation for ongoing scholarly discussions, pushing the envelope on how we understand history, social sciences, and education in today’s rapidly evolving world. By critically engaging with topics such as social justice, equity in education, historical revisionism, sustainability, and the politics of knowledge production, these papers offer new insights and challenge established norms. Many of the ideas and concepts presented here are likely to influence future research agendas, setting the stage for more inclusive, diversified, and reflective studies in the fields represented at this conference. Moreover, the papers gathered in this volume also embody the collaborative spirit of the conference. They showcase a range of perspectives—from seasoned academics to emerging scholars—each contributing to a broader dialogue about how we can better understand and engage with the complexities of history, social sciences, and education. The work presented here will serve as a resource for scholars, educators, and policymakers alike, offering new frameworks for addressing current issues and future challenges. We are deeply grateful to all the participants and contributors whose engagement has made this event a success. Special thanks go to the organizing committee and the students, whose dedication and enthusiasm ensured the smooth execution of the conference. ICHSE 2024 was not just a gathering of academics; it was a call to action. The discussions held during this conference are expected to contribute significantly to ongoing academic debates and to inspire future research. The relationships and academic networks formed here will serve to amplify the voices we have highlighted, ensuring that they continue to shape our understanding of history, social sciences, and education.
