Abstract

Malaysia’s rubber industry has its problems, like making sure that rubber production is always at its best. But despite the desire, the problems in the rubber industry do not just affect rubber tappers. They also affect rubber licensees who have registered with the Malaysian Rubber Board. Therefore, the objective of this study is to identify the challenges and obstacles faced by rubber licensees to continue being in the rubber industry, in addition to looking at the perspective of rubber licensees regarding the challenges of the rubber industry today. A qualitative approach used a single case study involving rubber licensees registered by Malaysian Rubber Board (LGM). Semi-structured interviews were conducted with the respondents using the open-ended question method. The study has been conducted in Kampung Kerling, Hulu Selangor. As a result of the interviews conducted, two main challenges have been identified by rubber licensers: the current low rubber pricing rate and the decreasing interest of rubber tappers in the rubber industry due to the age factor of today’s rubber tappers, which ultimately causes a decrease in rubber sales to rubber licensees. In addition, the results of the study also looked at the efforts made by rubber licensees to continue to remain in the rubber industry, in addition to looking at the direction of the rubber industry and the individuals who play an important role in ensuring that the rubber industry continues to be at the highest level.
