Students’ Writing Needs: Basis for Developing Instructional Material in Writing for Grade 10

- Abstract
This timely research aimed to fill the gap of producing a material based on the learners. Using descriptive statistical tools the study identified the participants’ writing ability level in terms of punctuation, spelling, and capitalization; developed an instructional material based on the students’ writing composition needs; and evaluated the newly developed instructional material. Results show that students’ writing ability level in terms of punctuation, spelling and capitalization belonged to emerging and failing level. The research proceeded to develop a material based on learners’ needs and preferences in learning. The study recommended that for students to develop their writing ability, teachers make materials which are according to their preferred way of learning and their learning pace to cater to the needs of the students.
