- Abstract
The success of an organization is of course supported by the roles of its members, from the leader to the members of the team below. Interestingly, currently many of the workforce available are millennials, especially the challenges they face are varied in managing millennial human resources, starting from the hopes of those who want flexible work, collaboration together. Therefore, they need leaders who can give them space so they can work well. Research on transactional leadership has often been conducted, but in relation to engagement, consistent empirical evidence has not been found. Several previous studies still had different results, where some studies explained that some had an effect and no effect. This research will focus more on millennial samples who work in the service and employee level of managers who have worked for a long time. The result in this study shows some information, Firstly, transactional leadership had effect on organizational commitment, and work motivation on work engagement. From this point, employee feel to have a direction either work at office or home to finish their work. Secondly, the variable of organizational commitment and work motivation had significance influence to variable engagement, as consequences of organizational commitment and work motivation felt in employee heart, then employee being engaged as a part of team. Hence, this finding indicates for leader to take a lesson for improving their skill to motivate people. Nowadays, the leader needs to scrutinize their subordinate characteristics, the millennial people tend to have flexible style and workplace rather than the salary. From this point, the leader attempt to dyadic relationship with their member to motivate their job.
