Abstract

Uyghur language is a unique language spoken by Uyghur people in China. Historically, several reforms focusing on the writing system of Uyghur language took place in the 20th century due to the influences of the particular ideology, political changes, periodical guidance, or underestimated practices within the writing system of the language. There were two comprehensive reforms on a large scale. After the reforms, Uyghur people reaffirmed the Arabic Uyghur scripts (Old Uyghur scripts) as their written language. This article will mainly talk about the reforms and also relate to their impacts on the developments of the Uyghur people in China.
