- Abstract
This study aimed to describe the role of quality school principals in curriculum development to create quality and independent schools. The approach was qualitative by employing a case study design. The researcher acted as the main research instrument, while the informants were representatives of quality school members. Data was collected through observations, interviews, and document analysis. Results suggested the followings. (1) A school principal becomes a determinant in the development of a school of Maju curriculum as the principal has the authority in decision making to become a quality and independent school. A school principal of Maju has to have good leadership and be able to innovate. (2) Curriculum development is carried out by considering the following steps: (a) planning or formulating objectives, (b) determining content and methods, (c) implementing activities, and (d) evaluations. (3) Excellent and independent school of Maju are the ones having the initiative in meeting their needs and are able to solve their problems without relying on others. This kind of schools has higher quality students compared to schools that have not carried out curriculum development.
