The 3rd International Conference on Applied Science and Technology (iCAST) 2020, organized by the Indonesian Polytechnics Consortium was held in Padang, Indonesia from 24-25 October 2020. This 3rd iCAST 2020 as a continuation of the previous conference that had been held successfully in Bali. This year the conference theme is “The Emergence of Green and Model-Based Technology in Developing Economy, Social Life, and Culture for Globalization” that was taken by considering that improving of worldwide technology can be adopted and implemented in local society in Indonesia.

Polytechnics, as higher education institution in Indonesia provide skilled and professional study, must be able to prepare people supporting green development that focused on responsiveness to the environment, efficiency in uses of earth’s limited resources, sensitivity to the community and culture. To answer this challenge, this conference presented the results of applied research to find a balance between economic and environmental sustainability.

Due to Covid-19 has been declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a global pandemic situation, it will highly impact to the implementation of annual scientific activities such as international conferences supported by Atlantis Press. Governments around the world have issued restrictions on travel, gatherings, and meetings in an effort to limit and slow the spread of the virus. Following the advice of local authorities, this conference previously planted to conduct through offline like a normal activity was replaced with virtual meetings.

This conference could not be conducted without contributions and hard works of keynotes and invited speakers, all authors, technical committee and organizing committee. Through this opportunity allow me to say thank you for you all. Furthermore, I also would like to give a great appreciation to Indonesian Polytechnics Consortium has been facilitated the conference, and Politeknik Negeri Padang as a host in this international conference that have been held through online conference (VICON).
