Abstract

Du Wenlan is a scholar who is devoted to the compilation and collation of folk literature in the Qing Dynasty. He is good at poetry, with a strong theoretical foundation and accomplishment of poetry. For folk works of ballads and proverbs, he formed the criticism concepts such as ballad expressing aspiration, stylistic concept judgment, colloquialism of ballad, and collective character judgment and so on in editing, which has made important contributions to enriching the theory of ballad, folk literature theory and folk literature criticism theory.
