Abstract

Xia Jingshan is a great buddhist painting master in contemporary China. He has devoted his life to buddhist painting. And he has inherited the artistic techniques and humanistic spirit of Chinese religious painting for thousands years. He also has created a unique expression of Chinese culture by his buddhist paintings, which is in line with today’s people’s aesthetic habits. Based on the discussion of Xia Jingshan’s life and his Buddhist painting, this paper will preliminarily explain the main spirit of his Buddhist painting art from three aspects: the prajna wisdom of buddhism, the sinicization of buddhist painting art and the social education function of buddhist calligraphy and painting.
