- Abstract
Based on some of the most representative films of South Korean director Bong Joon-ho, this study critically analyzes the causes of the solidification of social class in South Korea and the alienation of the underclass survivors. Literature research and text analysis are used to focus on shame culture and pain shown in films in order to trigger the public awareness for individual identity, national identity, and national future. The study also examines both critics and director’s own views on extreme elaboration and ahead concept in the context of the controversial “Bong-style film’, and further considers the social reflection of the metaphorical culture of “she” in Bong Joon-ho’s works.
