- Abstract
This paper addresses some issues around academic culture within the context of an Indonesian higher education. It makes a case of the revision of a house-made writing style guide implicated by the new governmental policy which has to do with academic text writing practice, including that of undergraduate thesis. Within this context, we will talk about identification of some conspicuous problems around the practice of academic text writing which encompasses two main issues: niche and language expressions. These two points constitute our agenda of action when engaged in a project to revise a house-made writing style guide as an attempt made to help cultivate academic culture projected to better prepare Indonesian academic discourse community to deal with the situations implicated by, particularly, the recent Indonesian policy on higher education.
