- Abstract
This research aims to examine factors comprising students’ motivation to participate in shadow education in West Sumatera. In particular, this research focuses on the participation of secondary school students in shadow education. Data for this research were collected by using a survey questionnaire administered to 433 private tutoring participants at 13 cities and municipalities in West Sumatera. The findings of this research show that there are five factors comprising secondary school students’ participation in shadow education. Those factors are personal, family, school, private tutorial, and peer factors. The findings maybe of interest for various education stakeholders and have implications for designing classroom learning strategy and educational policies.
